Becker’s Ireland Finish Eighth In The World

Sophie Becker helped Ireland to an eighth place finish at the World Championship 4x400m mixed relay.

Dominican Republic shocked the home town crowd to take gold in 3:09.82 the second fastest time ever in this event.

Netherlands were just point 08 seconds off the gold medal taken silver with hosts USA taking bronze.

Ireland clocked 3:16.86 just pipped for sixth place by Nigeria and Italy. The Irish team made one change from the heats with Sharlene Mawdsley replacing the ill Rhasidat Adeleke.

Becker ran a brave second leg having squared up to six time Olympic champion and 14 time World gold medallist Alyson Felix.

The Irish prefromed very strongly with Chris O’Donnell finishing fast to hand over to Becker. Jack Raferty battle hard as did Sharlene Mawdsley as Ireland finish as the eighth best team in the World!

Sophie Becker will be back in action in the 400 metres on Sunday.
