National Half-Marathon Championship for Kate Purcell

Kate Purcell ran a very strong race to win the national half-marathon championship in Fairyhouse racecourse on Saturday.

Purcell came home in 78:00 with a very strong final two miles for gold, some three minutes clear of silver medallist Sarah Baryga.

Purcell was followed home by Orla Manley (93:14) and Elaine O’Hagan McNulty (94:50). Unofficially this looks like a gold medal performance as we await AI confirmation.

Also running were Lorraine Byrne 98:32, Trish Fitzgearld 1:41.42 (O/55 bronze), Angela Charlton 1:41.06, Karen Slye 1:42.44, Niamh O’Malley 1:43.24 and Fiona Kirwan 1:47.07.

Also awaiting confirmation is a silver medal for the women’s o/50 team of Lorraine Byrne, Trish Fitzgearld and Angela Charlton.

Also racing well were Wes O’Brien 73.24, Eoin Connolly 81.24, Colm Dunne 82.14, Simon Sheridan 84.11, Keith Fleming 85.10, Brian Connor 88.10, Gavin Duffy 88.25, David O’Hara 90.08.

Roberto Romano 91.56, Steven Moody 94.45, Brian McWeeney 95.17, Niall Buckley 98.50, David McDonnell 99:53, Christy Reilly 1:41.44 (o/65 bronze), Dan Wallace 1:43.10 and Greg O’Beirne 1:48.05.

A great performance from a big Raheny team. Once team results have been confirmed by the AI, results will be posted here.

Also must note a major hat-tip to Ratoath A.C who organised superbly organised an excellent national half-marathon starting and finishing in fairyhouse race course.
