National Indoor League Round Two

A very mixed day at round two of the national indoor league in Athlone TUS arena.

Niamh Kearney won the women’s 1500 metres in 4:28.17. While Triona Nic Dhonaill posted 68.39 seconds in the 400m to collect four points.

The 4×200 team of Charlotte Wingfield, Hannah Byrne, Isabel Twomey, Abena Afari collected nine points finishing in 1:49.68, taking third place in heat three.

In the field, Kim O’Hare third, 10.65 metres in the triple jump. Helen Buckley took fourth in the weight for distance 4.82 metres. Niamh McCorry took sixth place in the high jump with a best of 1.50 metres.

That meant the women’s team finished 10th overall some 40 points off sixth placed Finn Valley and will not progress to the league final.

For the men, Juan Ignacio Pena the 1500m in 3:51.63.

The men’s 4x200m team of Oisin McCorry, Mark Smyth, Michael Farrelly and Tanaka Mukanya posted 1:31.73 to win heat one but to finish third overall. Oisin McCorry collected six points in the 400 metres posting 51.80 seconds.

Liam Sheehan 4.01 metres in the weight for distance. Donal Kearns took joint sixth place in the high jump with a best of 4.50m.

The result saw the men’s team finish seventh with 68.5 points some 15.5 points behind Donore Harriers and a place in the final.

The men’s team progress to the league final.
