Becker Helps Ireland To Fifth Place

Sophie Becker helped Ireland to fifth place in the 4x400m relay final at the European Indoor Championships.

Becker exploded from the blocks to claim a great position at the break and handed over to Sharlene Mawdsley in fifth place. Becker’s split was 53.70 seconds.

Sharlene Mawdsley posted the teams fastest leg in 51.15 seconds with Cliodhna Manning (54.39) and Phil Healy (53.37) helping Ireland to fifth place.

A very strong Netherland’s team took gold in a championship record in 3:25.66. Italy took silver with Poland taking bronze.

Very well done to Sophie and the Irish team who are now an established championship relay team.
