Mark Smyth Sets New 200m Indoor National Record

Mark Smyth wrote more history at the Leinster championship today when he set a brand new national indoor 200 metre record.

Smyth took gold in 20.64 seconds smashing Paul Brizzel’s 20-year-old record of 20.64 seconds.

The new national record is to be ratified but Smyth’s time at the Leinster Indoor Championships at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena is much deserved after an amazing season.

Smyth produced one of the standout performances of last month’s national senior indoor championships to take the 200m title in 20.77 seconds. That victory made Smyth the national 200m champion indoor and outdoor.

Today Leinster’s championship victory saw him beat off  Marcus Lawler (Clonliffe Harriers) in a season’s best 21.10 with Adam Murphy third in 21.81.
