Niamh Fogarty took fourth place in the discus on the opening day of the European Games in Silesia.
Fogarty threw a season’s best of 51.24 metres for fourth place. Isreal’s Estel Valeanu won out with a best of 57.17 metres.
Ireland are competing in division three of the European team championships, which makes it debut in the European Games.
Fogarty’s performance gave Ireland nine points in the league standings.
Mark Smyth is part of the Irish 4x100m team which is due for action on Wednesday June 21st. Smyth is also set for the 200 metre’s on Thursday morning.
Eric Favors shot put competition is scheduled for Thursday evening.
Fogarty has become the second Raheny Shamrock athlete to compete in these games following Brandon Arrey who competed in Minsk in 2019.
Fogarty is the fourth Raheny athlete to compete in the European team championship, having previously competed in 2019.
