O’Leary teaches BHAA a Lesson

Cillian O’Leary raced to victory in the Irish Life cross country hosted by the BHAA in Santry Demese on Saturday.

Teacher O’Leary covered the six kilometre course in 19 minutes and 53 seconds some 20 seconds clear of Barry Donovan in second place.

There was a sizeable club contingent in the former home of national cross country running with Dermott Gorman 10th in 21:26.

Niall Power was next in 23:49 followed by Dave Gargan coming home in 24:17 followed 14 seconds later by Mick Gygax.

Aine Crimin posted 25 minutes 13 seconds followed by John Freir 26:44, Vinnie Clohisey 26:54, Christy Reilly 28:17, Ann Marie Garga 30:02, Mary Purdue-Smyth 30:36, Sinead Lyons 31:47 Liz Keary 32:15 and June Comiskey 34:00.

Meanwhile a number of club members where in action at the Irish Universities Road Relay championships in Maynooth.

The championships saw a real upset as UL or Limerick University landed a men’s and women’s double for the first time.

Dan Scully posted 5 minutes 24 seconds for fourth place in the first mile leg which helped DCU take silver medals eventually finishing 15 seconds behind UL.

Michael Glynn posted 18 minutes 27 seconds for the 3 mile loop as Trinity College B finished in 16th place.

In the women’s race Ellen O’Hanlon ran the opening mile leg for Trinity College A team in 6:54, the team finished in fifth place overall.

Niamh Corry ran the two mile loop for DCU B in 12 minutes 18 seconds helping the team to sixth place overall.

Laura Brennan posted 12 minutes 39 seconds for the same leg as part of the Trinity College side who finished in 10th place.
