Masters Women Wrap Gold Around National Cross Country

It was Women’s day for Raheny Shamrock at the national masters cross country as Kate Purcell won the women’s race outright

Purcell’s victory led the team home to gold and a total of three gold, three silver and two bronze medal wins.

Kate Purcell won the race outright and took the F40 gold medal with Fiona Roche taking F40 bronze.

Purcell and Roche combined with Zoe Quinn (11th) and Sharon Keilthy (34th) brought the team home to gold.

Indeed, Annette Kealy took F55 gold and with Brid NiChonaill (51st), Orla Gormley (68th) and Jenny Colbert (84th) took O/50 team silver.

Also running very strong in Raheny colours were Shirley Coyle (49th), Caitriona Costello (73rd), Jean Dunne (104), Patricia O’Cleirigh (105), Deirdre O’Dwyer (109), Mary Purdue-Smyth (111) and Rose McCaul (116).

There was medals in the men’s team for John Dunne took M45 silver with David Kirwin taking bronze finish one place behind Dunne. While, Ciaran McCarthy took M50 silver.

The team of John Dunne (15th), David Kirwan (16th), Mark Kirwan (28th) and Brian Sexton (33rd) finished in fifth place.

Also running were David Jackson 60th, Davey Duane 66th, Graham Ahearne 67th Rory O’Sullivan 84th, Niall O’Neill 88th, Terry Keogh 91st, Brian Kelly 110th, Alan Foley 126th, Dave Woods 146th and Keith Fleming 169.

Also competing very competitively in the O/65 race were Tom Loftus, Colm Cahill and Mick Martin. While Ciaran O’Coigligh ran the M70 event.
