Kieran Kelly warmed up for the Believe and Achieve World Record attempt posting a 1,000 metre indoor personal best on Wednesday night.
Kelly the club’s 800 metre record holder will be part of a team including John Travers, Joe Warne and Eoin Everard which aims to break the 4×1 Mile indoor World record.
‘I’m feeling good for it. Training has been going really well and the body is loose and free” explained Kelly as the team look to break the current record of 16 minutes 16.67 seconds.
Kelly wrapped up his preparations for the event winning Wednesday nights 1,000 metres at the AIT Baseline meet in two minutes 25.95 seconds, just off Brian Peppard’s club record.
“It was more aimed at getting the pace for Saturday than going for a big run” explained Kelly. “I felt comfortable hitting one minute 58 through 800m.”
“I joked to Brian Peppard, who was there on Wednesday night that this was one record I’d would let him keep.”
“While I’m feeling good it’s hard to know your form at this time of your year as I’ve never raced this early” explained Kelly who has had an outstanding 2016.
“I have a pace plan for Saturday and will have a pacer on my leg so I’ll stick to that.
“We got to average four minutes four seconds per person to be within a chance of breaking the record“.
“If I can do in and around the same for 800m in the mile leg like I did in the 1,000 and hold my concentration in the tough third quarter of the mile leg, I’ll have a very good chance of doing my part.’
