Bourke And Favors Land National Championship Gold

It was another great day at the national indoor championships as Colm Bourke and Eric Favors took gold and Niamh Kearney took bronze.

Colm Bourke landed his first ever national senior title and the club’s first ever national senior long jump title.

Bourke’s second effort of 7.15 metres secured gold ahead of City of Lisburn’s Ben Fisher whose silver medal was secured on 7.07 metres.

Bourke jumped 7.10m in his fourth and fifth attempt. Colm has been a club stalwart for a very long, breaking numerous club long jump and triple jump records. A congratulations to Colm on his first national senior title.

Eric Favors secured his sixth national senior throwing 19.40 metres for shot put gold. The Olympian broke the 19m barrier on three occasions.

Favors first effort was his best at 19.40m. Effort two registered 19.09m and effort three 19.21 metres. John Kelly of Finn Valley took silver with a best of 17.85m.

On the track, Niamh Kearney took an impressive bronze medal in the 3,000 metres clocking 9:27.95.  Roisin Flanagan took gold clocking 9:14.02 with Ide NicDhomhnaill of West Limerick second in 9:21.45.

Kearney had some six seconds on fourth placed Danielle Donegan of Tullamore Harriers who posted 9:33.91.

There was also a very good performance in the 60 metres from Michael Farrelly who took fifth place in 6.74 seconds.

Bori Akinola of UCD took gold in 6.61 seconds with Max O’Reilly (Riverstick/Kinsale) second in 6.69 seconds and Isreal Olatunde (Tallaght) third in 6.72 seconds. Gabriel Kehinde (Nenagh Olympic) took fourth place in 6.73 seconds.

Farrelly had qualified for the final by winning his heat in 6.89 seconds and taking second place in his semi-final in 6.78 seconds.
