Simon Ryan lands Noonan Cup

Simon Ryan landed the 38th Joe Noonan Cup in some style on Sunday morning with a five second victory over Donal Foley.

Ryan opened up the club’s festive season programme winning the second of the “three classics”. The remaining “classic” being the Christmas Day race down the avenue.

Ryan broke the tape in 29 minutes 46 seconds with Foley clocking 29:51, Wesley O’Brien took bronze in 30 minutes.

Orla Gormley won the women’s race coming home in 36 minutes 59 seconds finishing ninth, Catriona Costello was second woman home in 37:38 with Kate Martin third in 40:24.

There has been a change of course in recent years with the six mile race being ran over two, three mile laps. This is due to the change of configuration on the coast road along St. Anne’s Park.

Men’s track and field captain Simon Devenney continued his return from injury with victory in the three mile race, which is one lap of the six mile course.

Devenney posted 15 minutes 28 seconds some 58 seconds clear of Dylan Kirwan.

Emer O’Keefe took the women’s three mile title in 20 minutes 44 seconds, finishing 18th overall.
