Daire Bermingham got 2017 off to a winning start with a comfortable victory at the Tom Brennan 5K in the Phoenix Park.
Bermingham clocked 15 minutes 23 seconds, 12 seconds clear of the host club’s Peter Arthur in the traditional New Year’s Day opener.
Donal Foley took fifth place in 16 minutes with Brian Fay sixth, two seconds behind Foley to secure the team title for senior men.
In the women’s race Annette Kealy took third place overall in 18 minutes 32 seconds. Donore Harriers Barbara Cleary won the race in 17 minutes 19 seconds.
The finishers in the park were Wesley O’Brien 16:30, Eoin O’Dwyer 16:42. Simon Devenney 16:54, Mick Boyle 17:04, Ian McConkey 17:13, David Brophy 17:23.
