It was another great day for Raheny Shamrock A.C as the club honoured our two time Para-Athletics World Champion Orla Comerford on Wednesday October 22nd.
Orla took double gold at the World Para-Athletics Championships in New Delhi last month and the club was delighted to have a special presentation at the Red Stables in St. Anne’s Park.
A very strong crowd into triple figures was on hand for the event. Orla spoke brilliantly to the assembled parties and described how relief was her first emotion when winning the 100m.
Relief for completing her goal of 2025 and moving from Paralympic Bronze in Paris, to World Champion in 2025.
Orla also described how she refocused after the Paralympics. The tricky challenge of entering a new Olympic cycles and simply just focused on each training session before bring a World championship win into focus.
Orla encouraged all club members to focus on their next session, whether they were just starting out with the juvenile’s or focusing on the Dublin marathon on Sunday.
A special message was read out on behalf of ladies track and field captain Blaithin Sheil who recounted how Orla has played such a key role as a Raheny Shamrock member and praised her brilliant achievement.
Club president Paddy Noonan presented Orla with a specially commissioned award. In his address Paddy recalled how realising when seeing Orla had an x-factor when seeing her in early training sessions.
Paddy praised Orla’s commitment to get the very best out of herself and how we are so proud of her.
As was Orla’s intention, Orla led part of the Juvenile’s training session which took place after the presentation. That was after Orla gave so much time in autograph’s and photographs to those in attendance.
