Maurice Timmons RIP

Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear member Maurice Timmons on Wednesday night.

Club treasurer Pat Hooper, paid the below tribute.

“Maurice was a popular and valued member of the club. A latecomer to the sport he won many age group awards.

Maurice will be remembered mostly as a prodigious marathon runner. In all he ran nearly 200 marathons. Maurice was the second club member after Eddie Harrison to reach the magical 100.

In 2004 he celebrated his 100th Marathon by organising a Special event in the City Centre which entailed running around St Stephens Green 26 times.

Maurice was always setting new goals. He ran a Marathon on all five continents. His latest project was to run a Marathon in all 28 EU countries.

At the time of his death he had only three remaining. In running his Marathons he also raised a lot of money for charity. Maurice was not just an athletic consumer.

Maurice gave an awful lot back to the sport. He was always available to steward and help at events.

A former President of the Business Houses Athletic Association he was one of the driving forces behind that organisation.

Maurice will be badly missed by all who knew him. The club would like to offer its condolences and thanks to his three sisters. May he rest in Peace.”

Further details will be posted when available.
