Strutt Bronze Double Team Gold in St. Patricks Festival 5K

Eoin Strutt took third place and lead the men’s team to victory on a windy course in the MSB St. Patricks Festival 5K road race in Dublin City centre today.

Strutt was always in the mix at the front of the race with the hosts clubs John Coghlan and Clonliffe Harriers Cathal Doyle.

Coghlan made a move around 4K which eventually saw him come home to win in 15:12 with Doyle second and Strutt taking third in 15:18.

With the team races set at four to score, Strutt plus Simon Ryan 13th, Eoin O’Dwyer 15th and David Kirwin 18th some 20 points clear of second place DSD.

In the women’s race Annette Kealy was first Shamrock home in sixth place clocking 18 minutes 46 seconds in a race won by AXA Raheny 5 winner Barbara Cleary.

Sarah Quigley finished in 12th place in the ladies race added to Niamh Corry 14th and Lucy Barrett 15th giving the women’s team 47 points , seven clear of Sli Cualann.

In the age group categories Adrienne Atkins win the over 50 title in 20:45 while Niamh Corry took second place in the junior women’s and Lucy Barrett took third place.

Damien Martin lifted the men’s over 50 title clocking 17 minutes with Eoin O’Dwyer taking third place in the junior men’s category.

Elsewhere over a busy St. Patrick’s weekend for racing, In the Balbriggan 10K Tara Kennedy Monks made a very welcome return to racing posting 42 minutes 42 seconds, Meave Devlin clocked 70 minutes 32 seconds where the elusive Larry Fox clocked 77:28 (hat tip Tom O’Sullivan!).

In the Balbriggan half marathon Connor Jennings clocked one hour 49 minutes.

Ian Conroy finished 14th in the Maulin Winter league route mountain run, clocking 49:07. Cillian O’Leary took seventh place in the Streets of Portlaoise 5k in 16:07.12.

While at the Reading half marathon on Sunday, Kevin Dooney made his debut for the distance in 68 minutes 17 seconds with John Frier posted 98 minutes 19 seconds.

Brian Conor clocked a big personal best of 3:28.47 in the Tralee Marathon.
