North Leinster Schools Round-Up

Santry Stadium bustling with excitement on an April afternoon could only mean one thing and that’s the beginning of the school’s track and field season with the North Leinster Schools.

It was a fantastic day from all the Raheny athletes representing their schools in the famous old stadium on a very cold day.

In the senior boys, Mark Smyth (St.Fintan’s High School) won the 100 metres while there was also wins for Kevin Byrne (St. Pauls College) in the high jump and Bill Oshafi (St.Fintan’s High School) in the triple jump also taking Shot Put silver.

Matt Cotter (St.Fintan’s High School) took silver in the triple jump and placed fourth in the high jump. While Martin Byrne (St.Fintan’s High School) placed fourth and Conall O’Toole (Scoil Chaitriona Mobhi Road) fifth over 400 meters.

In the senior girls, Aoibhinn McGoldrick (Holy Faith Clontarf) took 400 metre gold with Susi O’Flynn also of Holy Faith taking bronze.

Lucy Barrett (Pobailscoil Neasain) won the coveted 1500 metre title with Ailish Murtagh (Holy Faith Clontarf) taking bronze, while Kim O’Hare (Sutton Park) set a new club record of 10.76 metres to win the triple jump.

Caoimhe Flynn (Malahide CS) took 1500 metre bronze in the intermediate girls while in the boys events Jamie Sheridan (St David CBS) took 400 metre gold and Daniel Beveridge (St. David’s CBS) took discus silver.

Sophie Langan (Manor House) won the junior girls triple jump while Sean Maher (St. Davids) won the junior boys hammer.

Others who competed well included Emma Harrison (Manor House), Aisling Carroll (Gaelscoil Reachrain) and Sean L’Estrange (St. Fintan’s HS).

 The top two in each sprint events and the top three in the middle distance and sprint events progress to the Leinster championships on May 17th and 20th.

Day two of the North Leinster track and field championship takes place on Wednesday May 3.
