Dublin Graded Meet 1 Wrap

The opening fixture of the Dublin Graded took place on Wednesday evening April 26 in Santry Stadium.

There were some extremely big fields which shows how much athletics has grown in the Dublin area in the last number of years.

There were some impressive performances from Raheny athletes as the track and field season kicks off and the potential for plenty of 2017 personal bests is upon us.

Kevin Byrne took third place in the high jump with a best of 1.80 metres while Barra O’He pole vaulted over the three metre mark, seeing him place second.

On the track Sean Dowling finished second in the B race of 100 metres in 11.41 seconds while Gerard O’Rourke clocked 13.32 seconds. Orla Lambe moved down from distance running to clock 16.05 seconds.

Dylan Kirwan placed fourth in the 400 metre hurdles clocking 61.05 seconds, While Andrew Hyland posted two minutes nine seconds flat over 800 metres.

In a bustlingly popular 3,000 metres, Simon Ryan was first Raheny man home taking 13th place in 8 minutes 57.44 seconds with Eoin O’Dwyer posting 9.00.72, Feidhilm Kelly 9.07.87 and Donal Foley 9.09.23.

A total of 20 athlete’s finished the A race with David Brophy posting 9:28.43 in the B race, a time which would have place well in the A race. Just 36 athletes took part in the B race.

Also kudos to Donal Foley who correctly entered the club’s name on his entry form “Raheny Shamrock”, the only athlete who managed to do so.

The second Dublin graded of the season takes place in Tallaght track on Wednesday May 10, the events are 200 metres, 1500 metres, 5000 metres, long jump, pole vault and shot put.
