Fay Steeples to Leinster Schools Gold

Brian Fay landed the Leinster Schools Senior Boys 2,000 metre steeplechase on a balmy afternoon in Morton Stadium.

Belvedere College student Fay, showed a turn of pace to move away from silver medallist Philip Marron of Ratoath College coming home for victory in six minutes 11 point 31 seconds.

Some three seconds clear of second placed Marron with Eoghan Keaney of Terenure College taking the bronze medal in 6:30.04.

Day one of the Leinster schools track and field championships focuses mainly on athletes in the minor and junior categories.

Aidan L’Estrange (St. Fintans High School, Sutton) just missed out on a medal in the minor discus with a throw of 25.97 metres.

Adam Condon (Ard Scoil Ris) took bronze in the minor boys 1,100 metres three minutes 18.93 seconds. Tadgh Cleary and Cormac Whelan where part of the St.Fintans team who collect junior 4×100 metre relay bronze.

The second day of the Leinster School’s track and field championships take place on Saturday in Morton Stadium.

Brian Fay progresses to the All-Ireland Schools Track and field championships in Tullamore on Saturday June 3.
