What a sensational Saturday morning for Raheny Shamrock AC! Across Ireland, our athletes laced up their runners, donned the famous green and white, and delivered truly inspiring performances. From Dublin’s local parks to coastal routes and inland forests, our members showed up in massive numbers.
This week, an incredible 61 Raheny Shamrock AC athletes took part across 17 different parkrun events. The atmosphere was electric, the weather played its part, and our runners delivered stellar results—including a parkrun winner, multiple podium finishes, and plenty of top-10 positions.
The Headline Acts: Winners and Podium Finishes
A massive congratulations to this week’s standout performers who claimed top spots on the podium.
- First Place Glory: A huge round of applause to Brian Sexton, who was the star of the morning at Wexford Racecourse. Brian dominated the field to cross the finish line in 1st place with a blistering time of 17:02.
- Second on the Podium: At Broadmeadow Linear, Gary Aylward put in a spectacular performance, claiming 2nd place overall in 20:49.
- Terrific Thirds: Colm Delaney secured a brilliant 3rd place finish at Poppintree in 18:48, while Caitriona Costello finished 3rd overall and was the 1st female finisher at Mountlucas in 23:53.
Top 10 Finishes and Notable Performances
- At Ballymount, Michael McEnery ran a superb race to finish 4th overall in 19:11, while Hannah Coleman placed as the 8th female finisher in 27:04.
- On home turf at St Anne’s, Phil Behan led the Shamrock contingent home with an excellent 9th place finish in 19:31.
- In Ballincollig, Deirbhile O’Keeffe crossed the line as the 5th female finisher in 24:08.
- At Fairview, Aisling McNally finished as the 7th female in 26:00.
- Over in Ballina, Trish Dillon grabbed a top-10 female finish, coming home as the 9th female in 27:16.
- At Inis Meáin, Arthur Richard Parkinson finished in the top 10 males, coming home 9th male in 35:32.
High-Level Participation Stats
It was not just about the fast times; the sheer volume of green and white on the courses this weekend was a joy to behold.
- St Anne’s parkrun: The most popular spot, with an incredible 33 Raheny Shamrock AC members taking part.
- Ballymount parkrun: A strong group of 5 athletes represented the club on Dublin’s southside.
- Father Collins parkrun: 4 runners kept the Shamrock flag flying high on the Northside.
- Poppintree and Malahide parkruns: 3 runners represented the club at each venue.
- Inis Meáin parkrun: 2 runners enjoyed beautiful island running off the Galway coast.
- Solo representation: Individual club members proudly flew the Raheny Shamrock flag at Avondale Forest, Ballina, Ballincollig, Wexford Racecourse, Mountlucas, Donabate, Fairview, Gorey, Oldbridge, Broadmeadow Linear, and Lough Key.
