It was another action-packed few days for Raheny Shamrock AC, with club athletes racing strongly from Friday through to Monday across a busy programme of road races, championship action, and endurance challenges.
From sharp 5km performances in Athboy, Trasna and the Innercity 5km, to five-mile racing in Kinsale, back-to-back marathon running, and a superb medal haul at the Battle of Clontarf 10 Mile incorporating the Leinster 10 Mile Championships, there was plenty for the Green and Black to celebrate.
Friday Five-Star Performances
The weekend began on Friday with Raheny Shamrock AC athletes in action at both the Athboy 5km and the Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile. In Athboy, Michael Counsel led the club home in 21:02, followed by Gerard Fay in 28:20. Down in Kinsale, David Jackson produced a fine run of 27:11, with strong performances also from John O’Sullivan, Deirbhile O’Keeffe, Triona O’Brien, and Anne Marie Fidgeon.
Saturday Strength and Endurance
Saturday brought a mix of speed and endurance. At the Trasna 5km, Dylan Forman ran a swift 17:06. Meanwhile, Gerard Fay took on the first leg of the Celtic Warrior Back2Back Marathons, completing Saturday’s marathon in 5:34:56.
Sunday Racing Continues
On Sunday, Gerard Fay returned for day two of the Celtic Warrior Back2Back Marathons, completing the second marathon in 5:53:39. There was also excellent running at the Innercity 5km, where Maebh Conlon finished in 19:56 and Orla Manley followed closely in 20:27.
Battle of Clontarf 10 Mile and Leinster Championship Success
Monday’s headline event was the home race Battle of Clontarf 10 Mile in St Anne’s Park, which also incorporated the Leinster 10 Mile Championships. Raheny Shamrock AC delivered outstanding results across the board, led by Michael Brady, who stormed to 1st overall in a brilliant 51:20.
The individual Leinster medal haul was superb, with Mick Clohisey claiming O40 silver, Brian Kelly taking O50 bronze, Fiona Stack winning senior bronze, Maurice O’Brien earning O45 silver, Anthony Lee taking O55 bronze, Philip McGovern securing O60 silver, Shirley Coyle winning O35 gold, Ken Doyle taking O60 bronze, Lisa McCarthy claiming O35 silver, and Una Cherry earning O60 bronze.
Team Medals for the Green and White
It was also a hugely successful day in the team standings. Raheny Shamrock AC secured Leinster Men’s Senior Team Gold, Men’s O35 Team Silver, Men’s O50 Team Bronze, Ladies Senior Team Gold, Ladies O35 Team Bronze, and Ladies O50 Team Silver.
