Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club welcome this evening’s announcement from An Taoiseach Micheal Martin allowing the resumption of match fixtures from June seventh.
With race fixtures due to return, the club has drawn the 2021 fixture list to its traditional end of season date in September.
Our priority is to complete the 2020 Lord Mayor Of Raheny Two Mile Series which was suspended last September and host the 2020 Battle of Clontarf 10 which was due to be held in Easter 2020.
As with all other sports our calendar through 2020 and into 2021 has been heavily impacted due to the covid-19 pandemic.
As such; the 2020 autumn road race series and the 2020/21 Winter League will not take place.
The remaining six rounds of the 2020 Lord Mayor of Raheny Two Mile Series will resume from Tuesday June eight and run until Tuesday July 20th.
These rounds will incorporate the Tommy Lynam Mid-Summer Cup, the Peter Doody Cup, The John Fennell Cup and the newly commissioned Maeve Devlin Cup.
As a one-off the 2021 Donagh Lynch memorial sealed handicap which is normally a part of the Winter league will take place in the 2020 Lord Mayor Series.
The Jim Wall Memorial Handicap Two Mile will conclude the 2020 summer race series on Tuesday July 27th – pending easing of restrictions to 200 people.
A number of the clubs traditional road races postponed in 2020 will be held in 2021.
The 2020 Brian Holland Cup originally scheduled for April 2020 will take place on Tuesday August third. The following Tuesday will be the 2021 Brian Holland Cup per further easing of restrictions.
The 2020 Joe Noonan Cup will take place on Sunday August 15th, per further easing of restrictions.
The 2021 Lord Mayor of Raheny series is proposed to begin on Tuesday August 17th and for 2021 will follow its original six race format.
The Raheny Open mile is scheduled for Thursday September 16th in line with the proposed National road relay’s scheduled for Sunday September 19th.
At this stage we have yet to begin engagements with relevant stakeholders to host the 2020 Battle of Clontarf 10 Mile, the date and time of this fixture will be announced in due course and is dependent on further relaxation of restrictions.
We are beginning negotiations with relevant stakeholders for a venue for the 2020 Christmas day mile and the 2020 St. Stephen’s Day Paurloffs.
Further details on the resumption of the 2020 Lord Mayor of Raheny two mile series will be announced soon.
