Niamh Kearney set a new club 1500m record at the Irish Milers club meeting in Belfast today rewriting the oldest club record.
Kearney clocked four minutes 19.92 seconds for second place behind Carla Sweeney of Rathfarnham who clocked 4:17.57.
Kearney now writes herself into the history books breaking Kathryn (Moroney) Davis near 50-year-old record of 4:22.2 (hand timed) set on June six 1971 in Brussels.
A big day for Kearney with a record run which has been tipped by a number of top class runners over the years.
Meanwhile, Sophie Becker posted a new club record of 52.32 seconds when she finished second in the women’s 400m behind Phil Helay who won out in 51.50.
Elsewhere, Cillian Kirwan set a new personal best of 1:47.59 in the men’s 800m A race, just point 09 seconds off the club record. The race was won by John Fitzsimmons in 1:46.53.
Charlotte Wingfield won the women’s 200m B race in 25.06 seconds.
Dylan O’Brien posted 4:19.37 in the men’s 1500m C race. In the men’s B 400m Oisin McCorry clocked 49.87 seconds.
While Susie O’Flynn took fourth place in the women’s 800m B in 2:13.79.
