Cillian Kirwan set a new club 1500 metre record of three minutes 41.96 seconds at the North Belfast Harriers meet at Mary’s Peters track today.
Kirwan’s time shattered Kieran Kelly’s three-year-old record of 3:42.46 set in Oordegem.

Elsewhere Niamh Kearny posted 4:20.60 to take third place in the 1500m with Lucy Barret posting 4:48.00. In the B race Aisling Aherne clocked 4:51.12.
In the men’s 1500m C race Gavin Eccles posted 4:02.50 for second place with Stephen Fay posting 4:06.91.
Meanwhile Susie O’Flynn posted 2:14.22 in the women’s 800m B race with Conal Roders taking fourth place in the men’s 800m D race in 2:03.23.
While Eric Favors made a welcome return to action posting 18.98m in the shot put at the American track league meet. Italian Nick Ponzio won out with a best of 21.24m.
One result missed during the week, Niamh Fogarty posted a best of 43.31 metres in the discus at the European Under-23 championships in Talinn Estonia. This was Fogarty’s second European U23 competition the fourth representation made by a Raheny Shamrock athlete at these championships.
