Purcell Leads Home Irish Runner 5 National Medal Haul

Kate Purcell landed the national five mile road title at the Irish Runner 5 in the Phoenix Park today.

Purcell broke the tape on a day were Raheny Shamrock dominated the championship with Zoe Quinn taking bronze.

Purcell was the first woman home in 28 minutes 30 seconds some 26 seconds ahead of Sile O’Byrne from Sli Cualann. Zoe Quinn took bronze in 29:36.

Purcell and Quinn combined with Mary Walsh (32:46) to take the national team title with a total of 1:30.51 over five minutes clear of second placed Sli Cualann.

It was double team gold for the club as the men registered victory led home by Dylan O’Brien in 10th place in the race overall clocking 26:29.

O’Brien was followed home by Robert Frewen 26:33, Graham O’Dwyer 27:01 and Joe McCracken 27:02 for a total of 1:47.04 well clear of Liffey Valley.

There was gold for the men’s O/35 team of Ciaran McCarthy 26:46, Brian Leahy 27:46 and Terry Keogh 28:18. The women’s O/35 team took bronze with a scoring team of Trish Fitzgerald 35:33, Rose Kidd 35:41 and Aisling McNally 35:51.

Others running were; Eric Champ 28:24, Peter Rogan 31:18, Francesco Petroni 31:23, Michael Kehoe 31:25, Keith Fleming 31:39, Brian McWeeney 32:24, Eamon Traynor 34:24.

Nicholas Alexander 35:03, Jim Keogh 35:15, Adrienne Atkins 35:57, Christy Reilly 36:16, Nora Byrne 36:40 and Greg O’Beirne 37:56.
