Becker Makes World Top 30 Finish

Sophie Becker bowed out of the World championships finishing as the 26th best 400 metre runner in the World.

Becker ran a brave race in heat three to clock 52.24 seconds to finish fifth. This unfortunately wasn’t enough for Becker to advance to the semi-finals, finishing just two places outside the qualifying zone.

The 25-year-old Olympian powered from the blocks and put a fast finish into clock 52.24. Sada Williams of Barbados won out in 51.05. Second place went to Modesta Justė Morauskaitė of Lithuania in 51.27 and third to Ama Pipi of GB in 51.32. Those three automatically qualified for the semi-final.

Jamaica’s Charokee Young took fourth place in 51.84 seconds. Young took the fourth of the six fastest non-qualifying places.

A brilliant run and effort by Sophie who is now rightly ranked among the world’s top 30 400m runners. Becker had entered the championship ranked 41st.

Sophie will now turn her attentions to next month’s European Championships in Munich.
