Brian Fay confirmed his standing as one of the best distance runners in Europe finishing eighth in the 5,000m at the European Championships in Munich.
Fay posted 13 minutes 31.87 seconds for eighth place. The race was won by the Olympic 1500m and World 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigsten in 13:21.13. Silver went to Spain’s Mohamed Katir in 13:22.98 and bronze to Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa in 13:24.83.
Fay’s performance was the best by an Irish man in the European 5,000 metres since Mark Carroll in the same stadium 20 years ago.
A brilliant performance by Fay which made all of Raheny and Ireland proud.
