Girl Power At The Dublin Juvenile Cross Country Champs

The Dublin Even Ages Cross Country Championships took place on Sunday October 16th at the National Cross Country Course in Abbottstown.

Individual medals are awarded to the top 12 across the line, and to the first three teams (these individuals and teams qualify for the Nationals).

In the first race of the day with Raheny interest; Claire O’Leary had a fantastic run to take individual gold in the Girls Under-14 race. Her teammate Willow Agnew was just behind in third. Their teammates Maggie Foley and Rebecca O’Rourke had excellent runs bringing the silver team medal to Raheny.

The Boys Under-14 team of Leo McCarthy, Theo Duffy, Cillian Cooney and Liam Moore all ran well but finished outside the medals.

In the Girls Under-16 race; we had more individual success with Elena Forkan eighth and Chloe Griffin 12th. Rachel Costello, Cara Griffin, and Esther Ntoko combined well with Elena and Chloe and the girls team finished third. All teams will head to Donegal on the 20th November for the Nationals.

In the Boys Under-16 race; George Sevastopulo ran an excellent race to finish eighth. George’s team-mates Conrad Latham, Tom Monaghan and Seppi Baumeister also all ran well.

In the Girls Under-18 race; Siomha Magee ran a great race to finish third and Ella Beck also ran extremely well to all take an individual top 10 place. In the Boys Under 18 race, Lorenzo Zurro too ran well.

The inter-county relays made its debut on the Dublin stage. This event saw a team of four racing over a 4x500m cross country trail. U11 boy’s team of Conor Hanly, Matthew Peelo, Liam McAtamney and Eddie Connolly finshed a respectable 20th.

There was two u13 girl’s teams. Vivienne Lee, Elena Ghidini, Roby Cox and Ariana Butler ran a spectacular race narrowly missing out on a medal by seven seconds to finish seventh. Sadie Masterson, Triona McNulty, Silke Santini and Anna Sheehan ran strong to finish in 20th position. Very respectable in a national event.

All in all, a very successful Dublin Juvenile Even Ages Cross Country Championships for the club with the Uneven Ages to follow in a few week’s time. Thanks to all the coaches for devoting their time to training these amazing athletes.
