McCorry, Meier And Relay Team Take U23 Bronze

Niamh McCorry and the women’s 4x200m relay team both landed bronze medals at the National indoor U23 championships.

McCorry took shot put bronze with a best of 10.97 metres. McCorry’s final throw securing bronze. Ciara Sheehy of Emerald took gold with a best of 13.55m with silver going to Aoibhín McMahon of Blackrock (Louth) with a best of 12.78m.

McCorry also took fifth place in the long jump with a best of 4.60 metres.

In the 60 metre hurdles Tara Meier took bronze in 9.49 seconds just ahead of Niamh McCorry in 9.65. Ruby Millet of St Abbans took gold in 8.47 seconds with Niamh O’Neill of St Colman’s south Mayo taking silver in 8.84 seconds.

The 4×200 relay team of Tara Meier, Jessica Afrakomaa, Niamh McCorry and Lara Seeber took bronze in 1:40.33. Gold went to DSD with silver going to Lios Tuathail.

Elsewhere Jessica Afrakomaa took fourth place in heat one of the 200m in 27.58 seconds. Over 60 metres Jessica Afrakomaa clocked 8.06 seconds in the heats and 8.07 in the final.

Michael Farrelly posted 6.94 seconds for sixth place in the final having qualified with a time of 7.02 in heat four.
