Purcell Gold And Team Success At Leinster Masters

Kate Purcell took the Leinster master’s cross country in Avondale, House Co. Wicklow today and led the Raheny team to gold.

It was a Dublin/Leinster double for Purcell having won the Dublin championship last Sunday.

Purcell with Zoe Quinn (fifth) and Carmel Ward (22nd) claimed the team championship with 28 points, two points clear of Sportsworld. Clane took bronze with 55 points.

There was F45 gold for Zoe Quinn, F55 bronze for Trish Fitzgerald and F60 bronze for Jean Dunne.

The F50 team of Trish Fitzgerald (45), Brid NiChonaill (51) and Alma Capt (64) took silver with160 points well clear of bronze medallists Rathfarham 186.

Mullingar Harriers took gold with 155 points.

Also running well in green and white were Jenny Colbert, Helen Carr, Rachel Ormrod and Melanie Hearnes.

The men’s team took gold with Ian Conroy (fifth), Ciaran McCarthy (seventh), David Kirwin (ninth) and John Dunne (15th). A total score of 36 points, well clear of Clane who registered 60 points.

Ian Conroy took M40 gold, Ciaran McCarthy M45 gold and David Kirwin M45 silver.

Also running well were Bernard Roe, Rory O’Sullivan, Davey Duane, Colm Kernan, Mark McComish, Francesco Petroni, Michael Kehoe, Kevin Morrissey, Denis Murphy and Robert Walsh.
