Sophie Becker helped Ireland to sixth place in the World Championship 4×400 mixed relay final.
Ireland’s team of Becker, Jack Raftery, Chris O’Donnell and Sharlene Mawdsley came an impressive sixth, the third major international final in-a-row the team has made.
Ireland posted 3:14.14 in a dramatic final, with Femke BoI falling yards from the line as USA surged on to take gold.
While BoI got to her feet, she crossed the line without the batton, meaning the Dutch team received a DQ. Great Britain picked up the silver medal crossing the line ahead of BoI.
The Czech Republic came through to take bronze.
Ireland took sixth place in a very impressive performance, particularly having qualified from Saturday morning’s heat in 3:13.90. Ireland name the same team for the final, unlike a number of other countries.

Congratulations to Sophie Becker and the Irish team.
Becker is also part of the women’s 4x400m relay team. The heats for that event are set for Saturday August 26th.
Meanwhile, Eric Favors finished 13th in Group A of the shot put, to be placed 23rd overall. That unfortunately wasn’t enough to make the final.
Favor’s best throw was 19.65 on his third attempt. Congratulations to Eric on his performance at his second World Championships.
Eric Favors finishes 13th in Group A of the Men’s Shot Put, 23rd overall, so unfortunately no progression for Eric to this evening’s final.
He threw a best of 19.65 on his 3rd attempt but remained very consistant over the three rounds 👏
