Kelly Third in Drogheda

Kieran Kelly took third place at the Drogheda 5Km clocking 14 minutes 43 seconds.

Clonliffe’s Cathal Doyle won out in 14:16 with Rathfarnham’s Mitchell Byrne second in 14:43.

Kelly was followed home by Jamie Hyland taking sixth place in 15:38, Jeff Moore 19:29, Aoibhe Rooney 21:07 and Gerard Fay 24:19.

Meanwhile, Perseus Karlstrom of Sweden won the 20Km race at the World Race Walking tour hosted by Raheny Shamrock A.C in St Anne’s Park.

Karlstrom clocked 78:39 to take victory ahead of Noel Ali Chama-Almazan of Mexico in 80:05 with Veli-Matti Partanen of Finland third in 1:20:33.

David Kenny took fourth place overall and the Irish championship in 81:38.

The women’s race went to M├íria Katerinka Czakova of Slovakia in 91:42.

While the Irish team of Brendan Boyce and Kate Veale took second place in the mixed relay behind Slovakia in 3:11.48. Slovakia posted 3:11.17 in the first mixed relay held in Europe.

The Mixed relay is a new event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the performance will help in Ireland’s aim to qualify.
