Fay Third In Morton Mile

Brian Fay took third place in the famous Morton Mile as Fay and Cillian Kirwan broke the magic four minutes.

Fay posted 3:52.41 for third place, a race that was won on his home track by Clonliffe’s Cathal Doyle in 3:52.06. Sam Prakel of USA took second place in 3:52.32.

With Fay just behind in 3:52.41 just .35 seconds off victory.

It was a special night for Cillian Kirwan as he broke the four minute mile for the first time in 3:58.83. Kirwan becomes the second Raheny athlete with Brian Fay to break four minutes for the mile.

The 1500m split shows that Brian Fay broke the club’s 1500m record passing the split time in 3:37.73, shaving three seconds off his previous record.

Another special and dramatic Morton Games as international athletics made a big return to Dublin.

Niamh Kearney posted 4:22.13 for 13th place in the Women’s 1500 metres. A race won by Britain’s Shannon Flockhart in 4:04.98.

While, Niamh Fogarty took fifth place in the shot put with a best of 54.28 metres. Antonia Kinzel of Germany won out with a best of 59.12 meters.

It was a big night of athletics with Raheny Shamrock juvenile teams competing in the U10 4x200m mixed relay. U12 4x200m mixed relay, U14 4x200m mixed relay, U16 4x200m mixed relay and the 16x100m mile relay.
