Medals On The Order At National Road Relays

It was another good day at the 123.ie national road relays with two silver and one bronze was the order of the day with the senior women, men’s 35 and women’s 50 teams all bringing home medals.

The women’s senior team took bronze after a very tight battle with UCD at the national road relays.

UCD led the way after first lap through Kate Nurse with Maria McCambridge bringing home DSD second while Lucy Barrett ran excellently to bring Raheny into third after lap one.

Things become a little more, clear cut on lap two of the second two lap leg. Emma McEvoy pushing DSD into a commanding lead.

Kate Crowley produced a very strong run moving Raheny clear in bronze. Niamh Kearney ran a powerful final leg to secure a bronze medal in 21:44.

DSD took gold in 20:59 with UCD taking silver in 21:31. Raheny took bronze some 26 seconds clear of Crusaders.

The senior men’s team came home in fifth place in a very competitive senior race. The team of Juan Pena, Kieran Kelly, Shane Spring and Anthony O’Brien battle hard throughout.

However it was not to be there day with a very impressive Ennis Track holding off Craughwell by just four seconds gold. Clonliffe took bronze with DSD and Raheny fifth.

The B team of Jordan McDonnell, Graham O’Dwyer and Patrick Nolan posted 43:25

The W50 team of Tara Kennedy, Annette Kealy and Mary Walsh took silver in a combined time of 24:39. Gold went to Ennis Track in 24:12 with Drogheda & District third in 24:59.

The Raheny B team of Maria Dolan, Aoife O’Connell and Lorraine Byrne were fourth in 25:24.

There was silver for the m35 men’s team of Aidan Jones, Kieran Kelly and Mick Clohisey in 19:13. Letterkenny took gold in a M35 course record of 18:53.

Bronze went to Clonliffe in 19:30. The Shamrock’s B team of Ciaran Chandler, Anthony Sharkey and Anthony Eames took posted 15:14 with the C team of Eoghan Wrafter, Graham Ahearne and Ger Curley clocked 21:48.

The D team of John Clarke, Alasdair Brown and Gavin Judge posting 22:46.

The M50 were just outside the medals finishing in fourth place, just seven seconds of Inishowen. The team was Thomas McEvoy, Ciaran McCarthy and Niall Power.

The team clocked 21:49 with Rathfarnham WSAF taking gold in 20:53 and City of Derry silver in 21:03. Innishowen took bronze in 21:42.

The B team of Paul Curtayne, Eric Champ and Dave O’Hara posted 23:42, while the C team of Ken Doyle, Keith Fleming and Nick Alexander posted 25:06.
