The Raheny Shamrock quartet of Brian Fay, Michael Farrelly, Eric Favours and Niamh Fogarty helped Ireland to fifth in Division two of the European Team Championships.
It was a special result for Niamh Fogarty who was joint captain of the Ireland team. Fogarty who took seventh place in the shot put with a personal best of 14.29 metres.
On Saturday, Fogarty took fifth place in her peffered event the discus with a best throw of 52.20 metres.
On the track, Michael Farrelly was part of the 4x100m relay team who broke the national record for the second time in a week.
Farrelly helped the team to second place in 39.88 seconds taking .04 seconds off the record set last week.
While, Brian Fay produced a brilliant second place in the men’s 5,000m. Fay posting 13.56.07. Isaac Kimeli of Belgium winning out by just fourth tenths of a second.
Fay’s second place performance was only bettered on the track by an Irish team member, by Sarah Lavin who won the 100m hurdles.
Eric Favors took fifth place in the Men’s Shot Put, with a best of 19.42 meters.
Ireland ultimately finished in fifth place on 349 points behind champions Belgium (451.5), Slovenia (402.5), Norway (400) and Türkiye (382).
