Raheny Shamrock landed three national senior gold medals on day one of the 2025 national track and field championships.
Niamh Fogarty claimed national shot put gold with a best of 14 metres 29 centimetres. Fogarty’s best effort coming on her second effort. Second place went to Caoimhe Gallen of Lifford Strabane with a best of 12.40m.
Eric Favors took men’s shot put gold, retaining his title with a best of 19 metres 58 centimetres. John Kelly of Finn Valley took second place with a best of 17.85m.
Five of Favors efforts were over 19.26m, with his best effort of 19.58 coming in his third effort.
Daphni Doulaptsi Teeuwen took gold in the triple jump with a best of 13 metres five centimetres with Saragh Buggy of St. Abbans taking silver with a best of 12.74m.
Teeuwen gold, was the club’s first ever national gold triple jump medal!
While, Mohammed Ibrahim Halil took silver in the high jump with a best jump of 1.95 metres. Mohammed’s jump equalled the long standing club record of Mark O’Rourke and Neil Bollard.
Mark O’Rourke set that record way back in 1984 with Bollard equalling the record in 1991.
On the track, Sophie Becker won her 400m heat in 53.25 seconds to progress automatically to Sunday’s final. While, Daniel Scully posted 4:08.05 for 11th place in his 1500m heat.
Sunday will see a number of the club’s athlete go in search of more medals.
Sophie Becker will line-up in the 400m final at 6:45pm. Becker will start in lane four with fellow Ireland 4x400m relay team member Phil Healy in lane eight.
Whereas, Brian Fay lines-up in the 5000m final at 5:36pm.
Niamh Fogarty looks to retain her Discus title with that event beginning at 5pm.
Round one of the 100 metres for the women gets underway at 1:25 with Orla Comerford and Angela Castell Rodriguez both entered.
Michael Farrelly goes in the men’s 100m with that event starting from 1:45pm.
