Fay Sets New 5,000m Best

Brian Fay set a new 5,000m PB of 13:24.00 (oversized track) when finishing second at the UW Husky indoor classic on Friday night.

Fay’s time was the fastest Irish time since 2011 when Alistar Cragg set the national record of 13:03.53.

Niamh Fogarty took second place in the discus at the Open throws indoor competition in Vaxjo, Sweden. Fogarty threw 52.33 metres on her final throw.

At the AAI Games, Juan Ignacio Pena took second place in the 1500 metres posting 3:50.10 behind John Travers who won out in 3:47.89. In the same race, Stephen Fay posted 4:00.70 and Luke Murphy 4:05.78.

Sarah Tate posted 8.52 and Katie Flannagan Walsh 8.68 in the women’s 60 metres in heat two, while Hannah Byrne posted 8.33 seconds in heat three.

In the men’s equivalent Mark Smyth posted 7.00 in heat one. In heat two Sean L’Estrange clocked 7.05 seconds. In series two L’Estrange clocked 7.05 seconds.

In the 200 metres Sarah Tate posted 27.78 seconds for second place in heat six.

In the 800 metre’s Cillian Kirwan clocked 1:49.03 for second place behind Roland Surlis who won out in 1:47.84. Daniel Stone posted 8:20.78 for sixth place in the 3,000 metres.

Oisin McCorry clocked 50.47 seconds in heat one of the 400 metres. Donal Kearns posted 56.22 seconds in heat six.

On the roads Carmel Ward was fifth woman at the national 50K in Donadea clocking 3:51.20.
