Shamrocks Race The Mountain Trails

Kate Cronin, Zoe Quinn and Graham Ahearne all grabbed podium position’s at the IMRA Howth Summit Challenge on Wednesday night.

While 15 ten-year-olds from the club’s juvenile section took on the Howth Summit Challenge on part of the IMRA summer series mountain race.

Accompanied by three dads; all new to the mountain race scene themselves and Coach Edel Pepperd, they set off five minutes behind the main race on what proved to be a blistering summer evening.

The first 10 minutes was eventful, given that half the juniors took the wrong path and ended up turning around to join the main group while giving themselves an extra 1k uphill to run.

All those who participated never hesitated to attack the rough terrains and steep uphill challenges.

There was great team spirit on the summit with everyone young and old encouraging each other especially when the going got tough.

Annabel Zheng and James Smith where the first juniors home for the club. Special mention to our very own Phil Behan who swapped his coaching hat for the Race Director Hat on the night.

Well done to each and every one of you. The IMRA community were hugely impressed with our young talent. Lots more of this to come.

In the senior lades race results; Kate Cronin 2nd 56:56, Zoe Quinn 3rd 61:36, Alice Fennell 9th 69:34 and Rachel Ormrod 14th 74:47.
