It was lucky number 13 for Brian Fay in the NCAA cross country championship in Stilwater, Oklahoma.
Fay followed up his west regional title with a 13th-place finish, earning his second-straight cross country All-America honour. It was the best finish by any Irish man at the NCAA cross country since Dave Rooney in 2012 who finished seventh.
Fay was 38th in this event last year. Fay’s finish was the second-highest ever by a Washington State athlete on the men’s side, behind only Simon Baines’ 10th-place finish from 1993.
Fay also becomes just the second Husky man to become a two-time cross country All-American, joining Aaron Nelson (2013-14).
Brian Fay powers to the finish in 1⃣3⃣th-place! That’s the second-best finish by a Husky man EVER at NCAAs and the best since 1993!#GoHuskies x #NCAAXC pic.twitter.com/tgEwECWrt1
