Sophie Becker helped the Irish women’s 4×400 metre relay team in the European Championship final in Munich. Becker ran the opening leg as the Irish team finished second in their semi-final and advanced to the final as automatic qualifiers. Brian Fay confirmed his standing as one of the best distance runners in Europe finishing eighth in the 5,000m at the European Championships in Munich. Fay posted 13 minutes 31.87 seconds for eighth place. The race was won by the Olympic 1500m and World 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigsten in 13:21.13.
