Dave Rooney led the Raheny team to third place in the Tom Brennan Memorial 5K, the traditional New Year opener. Rooney posted 15 minutes for 11th place. Lucy Barrett scored an impressive victory at the D15RC Suicide Awareness 5k on Saturday. Barrett posted 17 minutes 26 seconds to finish fourth overall and take the women’s race by a clear margin. Simon Devenney was the first Raheny man home in 17 minutes 34 seconds for fifth place. The race was won by Robert Dowling of Clonliffe in 16 minutes 45 seconds.
Brian Sexton and Orla Gormley took victory at the Dollymount Beach race on St Stephen’s Day over 7.5km. Sexton took overall victory with Keith Fleming third and Martin Kelly sixth. Orla Gormley came home in seventh place overall winning the women’s race outright. Also running well were Niall Buckley, Dave McDonald and Jean Dunne.
