Raheny Shamrock are saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Vera McDonald, wife of long time member Joe McDonald. Mrs. McDonald passed away on Thursday June 30th. The shamrock’s walk into the lions den of Morton Stadium on Saturday night as international athletics returns to Dublin. Sophie Becker, Mark Smyth and Eric Favors all carry the Raheny flag on the Clonliffe Harriers organised Morton Games which is part of the World Athletics Continental tour. National 200m champion Mark Smyth helped the Irish 4x100m relay team to sixth place at the Stockholm Diamond League on Thursday night. Sophie Becker has been selected for the World Championships in Oregon next month. Becker will toe the line in the 400 metres and 4x400m mixed relay. Becker was a member of the Irish team which made the Olympic mixed relay final last year.
